Wedding Anniversary gifts

Welcome to our Wedding Anniversary gift blog

Is your parents wedding anniversary coming up soon?
Then you could go the normal route and send them a card and they would be happy with that.
Or if it’s a big occasion then a surprise party would be most welcome.
To commemorate the occasion some personalised drink coasters or food placemats with photos of their past will make it even more of a celebration, particularly for those friends and family who were there on the original wedding day. Nothing is quite as fascinating as the passage of time and how we all change over the years.

A list of personalised gift ideas to help you create a very personal gift to celebrate someone’s wedding anniversary;
be it there first or fiftheth wedding anniversary.

Personalised photo gift suggestions:

1/A matching set of personalised bone china mugs printed with their wedding day photos helps them feel the warmth of each other’s beverages.
A then and now theme works well with the mirror faces of the bone china mugs giving a lovely contrast
between the wedding day and the present day.

2/ A personalised photo clock face is a symbolic wedding anniversary gift to celebrate the passing of time. Wish them Happy Anniversary by printing a photo of their wedding day.
Perhaps add a message:”Doesn’t Time Fly!” and the date of their wedding day.

3/A set of personalised photo cushion covers featuring their wedding day photos is a welcome soft furnishing which can always be easily found a place for in any home.

4/Something small but functional would be a smart phone photo sock, which can be printed one side with an early photo of their married years and the flipside a more recent image with a commerative message, such a

Congratulations
Phil and Jean
20th August 1985-2010
35 years of marriage

5/ A photo collage of the years that have passed, showing them as fresh young adults, then with the children, a  memorable holiday, then a recent event, like a party or gathering with friends. A photo tray is a great medium for collages being large enough to see the detail and will give a married couple an anniversary gift which they can use daily and wonder at how the time has flown, while to all intents and purposes they are still the same people. This will be the pride of their kitchen and many dinners enjoyed in front of the tv.

6/One more gift idea as a celebration of a  couple’s anniversary could be a set of coasters showing different precious moments from their past. Or maybe a set of photo placemats which allows for a larger print. Please note landscape images are better suited to placemats because that is the way they are used usually, whereas with coasters the photo will be cropped to fit the square or round shape.

Here is a short history of commemorating wedding anniversaries and the associated symbolism:

The earliest known references to associating an anniversary with a commerorative gift comes from medieval times and  was practiced in middle Europe.  The spouse would give his wife a silver garland when they had been married for 25 years and a golden garland to celebrate 50 years.

There are materials associated with specific years for the first 5 years of marriage and then every 5th year up to 25th and then 50th and 75th.

The earliest reference celebrating a wedding anniversary, other than Silver or Gold, was around 1875.This was for the 5th anniversary, for which Wood was the material for commemorating the occasion.
There are currently 2 Diamond Anniversaries, one at 60 and one at 75 years.
The 75th anniversary is the original traditional diamond anniversary. The 60th was added when Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee on her 60th anniversary of her accession to the throne in 1897 and has since been associated with the 60th Wedding Anniversary.
In 1937 the American National Retail Jeweller Association created a list which associated a precious metal or gem with each Anniversary year up to the 15th Anniversary and then each fifth year after that up to the 60th Anniversary. How thoughtful of them!
